Back Bone Lookout To Red Rock

Head out on this 9.9-mile loop trail near Topanga, California. Generally considered a challenging route. This trail is great for hiking, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. You'll need to leave pups at home — dogs aren't allowed on this trail.

Hondo Canyon Backbone Trail

Hondo Canyon Trail is a well maintained section of the Backbone Trail that crosses fields of grains and forests of bays as it climbing 1,550 feet over 3.8 miles. The trail passes through a quiet section of the Santa Monica Mountains west of Topanga Canyon.

Musch Trail to Eagle Rock

This route begins at the Musch Hike-in Camp and takes you to the beautiful Eagle Rock overlook. The Eagle Rock slab is a great place to stop, take pictures, and have a snack as you take in the view.

Parker Mesa Overlook Trail

The vista from the Parker Mesa Overlook is stunning. You can see all of the LA basin laid out before you, the snow capped San Gabriel Mountains to the east, Catalina Island to the south, and the crescent shaped coastline of Santa Monica to the west.

Red Rock Creek Trail

Generally considered an easy route. This is a popular trail for birding, hiking, and running, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. $5 parking.

Topanga Lookout

This is a well known trail in the area and is a very popular destination for sunset/sunrise viewers. The trail ends at the Topango Lookout Tower Ruins and provides excellent views of the surround mountains and landscape. The trail can get a bit crowded during these times, so be prepared to run into other hikers.
